A Visit from Poet Michael H. Hanson

The Great Debate
by Michael H. Hanson

I find your horror offsetting,
pressing on New Hampshire’s borders
with all its rough, itchy bedding
daunting sleep in my mind’s boarders.

Well I find your poetry, sir,
with elegant economy
a weak, musky tea to deter
my dark, thirsty Maine alchemy.

I think you mean to mine men’s sin,
unearthing vile atrocity;
While you pen praising earth’s raw skin,
imbuing dishonest beauty.

Long sundered by both space and time
fate’s walls can’t mend or e’er portend
a New England house paradigm
each gentleman has not condemned.
